We're reading the New Testament in 2007. It only takes 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week with 5 new ways to dig deeper.
Read the Bible

From this Week's Bible Reading

"So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and steady, always enthusiastic about the Lord's work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless."
- 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NLT)

Sanctuary Choir Begins a New Season

The Sanctuary Choir's first rehearsal for the fall season will be held Wednesday, September 5 at 7:30pm in the sanctuary. Beginning Sunday, September 9, the choir will lead worship at the 10:30 service, following their warm-up rehearsal at 9:30.

A music reading session is planned for Friday, August 31 at 7pm, also in the sanctuary. We will sight read through a stack of music, and pick out the best ones for the year. Choir members are invited to search through the file cabinets to find anthems from the past for consideration.

New members are always welcome. If you sing in the shower or the car, you have enough talent to join the choir. If you play an instrument, such as flute or violin, and would like to participate once in a while, contact director Patty Graham at 763-4196 or OboeOne@juno.com.

Benefits of singing in the choir include increased air capacity, heightened awareness of God's presence, and free parking. A 10% raise has been approved for singers as well, so join the choir, and praise the Lord!

Fall Potluck Groups Forming

We are gearing up for the start of the fall potluck groups.  These groups consist of 3 couples who take turns hosting a potluck dinner in their home each month. Anyone interested in joining a September-November potluck grou ( eeding more information) is invited to call Diane Olson at 763-3550 or Verna Bueckert at 778-0828.  Everyone who participated in last spring's potluck groups will be included unless you notify Diane or Verna to say you are not interested.  All singles or couples (members or non-members, with or without children) are welcome to participate.

Your Heart, Christ's Home?
A Message from
the Pastor

What does it mean to have Jesus come into your life?

We describe it different ways. We say it means Jesus is in your heart. Or Jesus is the King of your life. Or Lord of your life.

It's hard to describe - especially to children - because it is a mysterious thing to have God the Father loving us, Jesus Christ guiding us, the Holy Spirit filling us. So, we often resort to cliches or we use biblical language we may not understand.

Years ago, Bob Munger, a pastor, set about to describe the experience in a sermon. The message hit home for many and it became a booklet named, "My Heart, Christ's Home." In this brief 28 page booklet, Munger imagines the heart as a house, and walks you through each room, encouraging you to surrender its contents - no matter how messy - to Jesus. Now the booklet is available in a children's version.

I will be describing this experience as best I can this Sunday in our worship services. I hope you'll be there.

I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love.- Ephesians 3:17 (NLT)

Yours in Christ,

DavePastor Dave

Happy Day School News

We are looking forward to the start of a fresh, new, school year.  Teachers will return on Monday, August 27th for two days of meetings.  Then, on Wednesday, August 29th, all classrooms will have visiting days.  This is always a fun time for parents and children to learn more about school and to see their newly decorated classrooms.

The first day of instruction for all groups will be on Thursday, August 30th.  We will enjoy the Labor Day weekend and then be off and running.  It is an exciting time for staff as we welcome all the children back to school and some for their very first experience.  We will have a Parent Workday at Happy Day on Saturday, September 8th.  More news will follow in the very near future.

Announcements,  August 26, 2007
Here is a preview of the announcements that will be in Next Sunday's bulletin

Jr. High End of Summer Day - Today the Jr. High Youth Group wraps up the summer with a fun day at the church from 1PM to 4PM.  6th grade graduates are welcome to join us for this event.  Jr. High students and anyone about to start 7th grade should invite your friends and join us for a fun afternoon.  Come prepared to get wet, eat junk food and have fun.

Communion & Deacon's Offering - Next Sunday.  Each first Sunday, in conjunction with our Communion Service, the Board of Deacons receives a portion of the Offering.  Green Deacons' Fund envelopes are provided for your use.  This offering supports the ministry of our Board of Deacons.  Your contribution becomes a blessing to those in crisis.

Junior High and Senior High - The Jr. & Sr. High youth groups will Kick-Off a new year with a BBQ on Sunday, September 9th.  We will meet from 5:30PM to 8:30PM in court yard at FPC/Petaluma.  We have planned a fun evening of games, dinner, singing and connecting with new and old friends.  So, bring some friends and enjoy some fun and the beginning of another great year.  Our regular meetings begin on Sunday, September 16th.  We meet from 7:00PM to 8:30PM at the church.

Save The Date! - September 9th is set for our annual "Fall Kick-Off" celebration, and this year's celebration is bigger than ever.  This is the perfect day to invite friends to visit our church.  A children's carnival, youth group games, the return of our choir, and a congregational pot-luck barbeque lunch are all part of the day's activities.  Don't' miss it!

New Bible Game Show - What do costumes, prizes and silly string all have in common?  They are all a part of our new Bible show, "Rack Your Brain," which begins today in Sunday School.  Kids have a chance to give clues and "act out" clues about characters in the bible while others try to guess the identity.  And, if a participant accidentally says the "magic word," the Silly String Brigade goes to work!  Please have your kids join this fun and educational bible game.  Want to join in the fun yourself?  Come and be a helper!  See Shannon Trayle, Andi DiLello, or Loren Dooley for more information.

Mary's Dine & Donate Event - Join us for pizza, pasta or salad at Mary's Pizza Shack on Monday, September 10th.  Twenty percent of sales will go towards the purchase of a portable church office in South Africa.  You must have a flyer with you at Mary's on the 10th.  Please see Donna Brumbaugh for a Dine & Donate flyer.  They are also available in the church office.

Regarding Announcements - Notify the church office by 8:30 AM on the Wednesday preceding the Sunday for your announcement:  (762-8269) or FPCPetaluma@sbcglobal.net.
