What We Do and Why:
CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL
By Carol Weidlich
Director of Children’s Sunday School
As Director of Children’s Sunday School, one of my responsibilities is to recruit, equip, train, and encourage Sunday School teachers and helpers. This is a challenging task, yet very rewarding, as I feel privileged to get to come along side and support these wonderful Sunday School volunteers!
Did you know that Children’s Sunday School has the largest number of volunteers in any area of ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Petaluma? There are around 45 volunteers that have been involved in Children’s Sunday School this past year, and they are very appreciated! These dedicated servants give freely of their time and talents because of their great love for teaching children of all ages about God and being a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. A special appreciation Brunch is planned for Saturday, June 10, 2006, in Koinonia Hall, for those who have been volunteering in Children’s Sunday School. Recognition of these faithful volunteers will be done during both Worship Services, June 11, 2006, so mark your calendars now!
Our Children’s Sunday School Program is offered during both Worship Services. Gospel Light Curriculum is used in all of our classes. This curriculum is fun, user friendly, adaptable for any size class, and has a good representation of both New and Old Testament. Feedback from teachers, helpers, and children, has been very positive!
Sunday School Classes:
9:00 A.M.
Nursery and Sunday School during the full hour for ages Nursery-6th Grade. Parents take children directly to their Sunday School Classes before the Worship Service.
NURSERY CARE is available in the Church Nursery from 8:45AM to 10:15AM.
“SONSHINE KIDS” - Age 3 through Kindergarten. “My Great Big God” curriculum helps young children grow more aware of God’s love, care, and help in their everyday lives.
“KINGDOM KIDS” - Grades 1st through 4th. “God's People Celebrate” curriculum helps students discover how God’s people around the world and throughout time, have celebrated and still celebrate God’s gifts to us.
“THE EDGE” Preteens – 5th and 6th Grades or through age 12. “The Edge” curriculum is designed to build a strong foundation of faith that will enable students to live as Jesus wants them to, even in the face of the peer pressure.
10:30 A.M.
Children accompany parents in Worship until Discovery Time (a children's sermon, about 10:50 am)
NURSERY CARE is available in the Church Nursery from 10:15AM to 11:55AM.

“KINGDOM KIDS” - Grades 1st through 4th. “God’s Big Picture” curriculum takes students through a majestic gallery of the major characters and themes of God’s Word! Its chronological approach gives students an understanding of the Bible as a picture of God’s plan and purposes.

BEST SUNDAY
The third Sunday of each month is the Best Sunday for 4th-6th Graders. They have various fun activities after the classic worship service, like rock-wall climbing and various craft activities. Donna Wall heads this up.
It’s a boy! It’s a girl!
By the end of July, 2006, we will have welcomed seven new babies into our Church, since December 2005! Attendance is up with several toddlers and new babies attending our Nursery. We are quickly outgrowing our current space and will soon need a new location to house the toddler and infant rooms that make up our Nursery!!
Congratulations to our newest parents!
Keith & Karen Lew – baby boy, Aidan
Matt & Bridget Eshoo – baby boy, Ethan
Jim & Carol Eaton – baby girl, Taylor
Andy & Kiyoe Logan – baby boy, Hiroto
Emmert & Jessica Briggs, baby girl, Mary

A big thank you goes out to the wonderful people who have been helping to welcome new babies in to our Nursery. They are: Kathy and David Francone, for the brand new changing table, glider chair, and ottoman, Bridget Eshoo, for donating new crib linens, and for her friends from the Petaluma Mother’s Club that donated two cribs, Lorraine Linstrom, for her friend that donated a changing table, Keith and Karen Lew, for donating their beautiful bassinet, and Marcille Roth, for purchasing a bouncer chair!! Your generousity and thoughtfulness is Heaven sent!! Please stop by and see our Nursery, and be sure to say “hello” to Gail Peay, Nursery Care Provider, and staff, who faithfully take excellent care of FPCP’s “littlest blessings”.
Summer’s coming….
The Children’s Christian Education Commission and I are planning a vibrant Summer Sunday School Program. This curriculum will enable us to gear down with less teachers and helpers, so those who have been serving, can have a much deserved break. Our curriculum this Summer is Promiseland’s “Flipt”, where lives are changed…challenged…flipt. By Jesus. So get ready to get flipt. By Jesus.
Vacation Bible School will be July 10-14, 2006.
During the summers, we go to Camp at Westminster Woods

Teachers are always welcome. Maybe you would rather be an assistant. We need you too. This summer, Vacation Bible School will need dozens of volunteers - from youth to adults. All kinds of skills are needed - teaching, of course, but also game leaders, team leaders, craft leaders, snack providers and more.
