Gathering of Tents at the California State Capitol

Saturday, November 8th
On the lawn by the west steps of the Capitol building
Sacramento, CA
10AM – 4PM

A year-long project of local groups gathering their city’s residents for tent painting, advocacy, education, and aid for the displaced people of Darfur, Sudan cumulates this weekend.  In support of the national Tents of Hope events in DC, Tents of Hope groups throughout California will be gathering at the Capitol with tents, banners, and squares painted with messages of hope to the Darfuri people.

Come see the colorful tents, paint a canvas square, participate in activities, learn about the crisis in Darfur and the genocide occurring there, write to Washington, be there to be counted as a person who cares about the genocide occurring, yet again in a world that said, “Never again.”

  • AFRICAN DRUMMERS
  • Activities, crafts, speeches
  • Ability to donate to relief organizations
  • Information on the crisis in Darfur, pictures of the people.
  • Information on organizations who will continue the fight for peace in the Sudan after the tents come down.

Tents to Darfur:
After this event, our California tents will be gathered and shipped to Newark, NJ, where they will be added to a container with tents from the Washington, DC event. From there, the tents will be shipped to Darfur, where they will be used as school classrooms and offices, in refugee camps. This project is sponsored by Darfur Peace and Development organization (website)
